Chemosil 597

Polymers and heat reactive components in an organic solvent system.

LORD Chemosil® 597 E is a non-pigmented single coat bonding agent used for bonding castable polyether polyurethanes to metals and other rigid substrates. Chemosil 597 E will also bond several millable polyurethane elastomers during the vulcanization process. The bond exhibits very high bonding strengths and is resistant to water and many organic liquids. The solvent system for Chemosil 597 E does not contain chlorinated solvents.

A properly prepared substrate surface is essential to achieve consistent elastomer bond performance. All oil, grease and other soluble contamination should be removed by solvent degreasing or alkaline cleaning. Rust, scale and other non-soluble contaminants should be removed by mechanical or chemical methods. Grit blasting is the most commonly used mechanical method. A second degreasing stage after the mechanical treatment is strongly recommended to remove residual grease, oil and abraded dusts. Chemical treatments for ferrous substrates usually involve the use of phosphatizing agents. Chemosil 597 E can be applied by brush, roller coating, spray or dip applications. For a recommended dry fi lm thickness of 12-15 microns the following dilution is recommended:

Brushing/rolling: 50% MEK or MIBK
Dipping: 50% MEK or MIBK
Spraying: up to 150% MIBK (if necessary, add
10% Cyclohexane) (air pressure 3-
4 bar, nozzle Ø 1-2 mm, distance
~ 50 cm)
