Chemosil XW 1190

Polymers and heat reactive components in an aqueous carrier

LORD Chemosil® XW 1190 is a heat activated substrate primer for both water and solventborne Chemosil and Chemlok® bonding agents. Chemosil XW 1190 is a waterborne product which forms a hard, non-tacky fi lm, resistant to chipping and normal process handling. Chemosil XW 1190 will provide excellent environmental resistance to the bonded component. Chemosil XW 1190 is especially designed to be used on preheated components to enable high rates of production to be achieved. Chemosil XW 1190 eliminates solvents, reducing VOCs that produce photochemical smog in the atmosphere. Chemosil XW 1190 is designed to be compatible with both solvent and waterborne Chemosil top coats such as Chemosil 411, Chemosil XW 7484 and Chemosil XW 7500.

A properly prepared substrate surface is essential to achieve consistent elastomer bond performance. All oil, grease and other soluble contamination should be removed by solvent degreasing or alkaline cleaning. Rust, scale and other non-soluble contaminants should be removed by mechanical or chemical methods. Grit blasting is the most commonly used mechanical method. A second degreasing stage after the mechanical treatment is strongly recommended to remove residual grease, oil and abraded dusts. Chemical treatments for ferrous substrates usually involve the use of phosphatizing agents. Chemosil XW 1190 contains dispersed solids and must be thoroughly stirred before and at frequent intervals during use. Chemosil XW 1190 can be applied undiluted by dip coating. For spray applications, Chemosil XW 1190 must be diluted. Pre-heated substrates (approximately 40-50°C) will produce an even fi lm. For a recommended dry fi lm thickness of 10-15 microns the following dilution is recommended:
Dipping: undiluted
Spraying: 0-20% water (air pressure 3-4 bar,
nozzle Ø 0.8 mm)
